Say Hello to our New Director!

The Olympia Chorus is thrilled to announce Margaret Eby as our brand new Musical Director! Since her first grade teacher told her parents that she had talent, Margaret has studied music: from piano lessons as a child, to graduating as a Music Major from the University of Puget Sound. She has formally studied piano performance, vocal and choral performance and choral conducting, and has over 10 years experience directing church choirs.

A few years ago Margaret joined the Olympia Chorus as an energetic member. She was soon appointed Assistant Director, then Interim Director. She became our permanent Director in July 2022. Margaret loves being a student but more than that, she loves sharing what she knows about the art of making beautiful music. We couldn’t be happier to have her as our musical leader!

Visit a Rehearsal!

We rehearse every Tuesday evening from 6:30pm-9:30pm at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Olympia, WA. All rehearsals are open to visitors—whether you want to sit and watch, or participate! Please arrive a few minutes early so we can meet you and give you more information.

There will NOT be rehearsal on the following dates:

  • May 31, 2022
  • July 5, 2022

*Note: Although we rehearse in a church, Olympia Chorus is not a religious organization.

First-Time Visitors

Guests, on the first night, are invited to sing with us or they can sit and watch us. A member of our music staff might ask you to meet with her for just a few minutes to determine which part you and your voice would be most comfortable singing. You may also be paired with a “riser buddy” who sings the same part as you to help you with the music throughout the night. We usually have copies of sheet music available for all of our songs as well.

*Note: Because of some members’ allergies, please refrain from wearing perfumes or strongly-scented toiletries.

What to Expect

A typical rehearsal starts with about 30 minutes for warm-ups, both physical and vocal. After everyone is warmed up, we work on music that will eventually be performed at shows or competitions. At some point during the night, there is usually a brief period dedicated to sectionals, where the chorus splits up into groups based on voice parts. After rehearsal, we make announcements about upcoming performances, educational opportunities, fundraising projects, and other things. We always end the night by joining hands in a circle and singing one final song.

Join the Holiday Chorus!

This year Olympia Chorus is hosting a special guest night for people who want to check us out for the purpose of singing holiday songs and participating in holiday performances — NO STRINGS ATTACHED! No need to audition, join, pay membership fees, purchase a costume, or attend past the 2022 holiday season. (We hope you will continue to come, of course!)

Please join us Tuesday, September 27, 2022 for our holiday open house/guest night to get a folder of holiday music, step on the risers, and start making a joyful noise!

If you’re not able to make this rehearsal, please let us know and we will make accommodations for you. Every rehearsal is open to guests!

We hope to see you there!
